Turkish authorities conduct major inspections in Ankara and Istanbul
Law enforcement agencies in Ankara and Istanbul have conducted large-scale inspections of entertainment venues and hotels to enforce public order and regulatory compliance.
In Ankara’s Altındağ district, coordinated efforts by the Ankara Governor’s Office and the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office led to the indefinite cancellation of licenses for 20 alcoholic entertainment venues. Inspections covering fire safety, hygiene, and zoning regulations resulted in administrative fines totaling over 58 million TL. Authorities also identified and penalized illegal use of electricity, water, and natural gas.
In Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, police utilized drone surveillance to monitor areas including Taksim Square and Istiklal Avenue. The aerial monitoring led to the detection of prostitution negotiations, resulting in legal action against four individuals for brokering and providing premises. The operation included the inspection of 25 entertainment venues and five hotels, leading to the sealing of two unlicensed entertainment venues and two hotels. During the sweep, police conducted identity checks on 1,737 people, apprehending three wanted individuals and two irregular migrants, while also seizing drugs from three suspects.
