HSG Nordhorn-Lingen sued over falsified licence application

The second‑division handball club HSG Nordhorn‑Lingen is accused of submitting false financial figures in its licence request for the 2026/27 season. The Handball‑Bundesliga (HBL) determined that the club’s application contained significant irregularities, leading to the revocation of its previous unrestricted licence and the imposition of three strict conditions: immediate proof that the identified liquidity shortfall is covered, monthly submission of liquidity and earnings plans for the entire season, and a cap on personnel expenses pending commission approval. The HBL also plans to deduct six points from the club for the 2026/27 campaign. In response, HSG Krefeld Niederrhein, a potential replacement club, has hired handball law expert Helge‑Olaf Käding and is preparing for possible legal proceedings. The licensing scandal is expected to generate further judicial and regulatory scrutiny within German handball.
