BG Investment Group disputes customs rulings in Pedernales

BG Investment Group, a textile recycling and classification company operating in Oviedo, Pedernales, has reported a halt in operations due to a dispute with the Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Customs (DGA). The company claims that nine of its containers are being held and that new, unexplained technical criteria are being applied to the valuation of its goods.

The company asserts it operates under the border development regime (Law 12-21) with a certification valid until 2028 and has paid over RD$48 million in customs taxes. BG Investment Group has taken the matter to the Constitutional Court, alleging violations of legal equality, due process, and legal certainty.

Local communicator Alfredo de la Cruz has called on the DGA to consider the socio-economic impact of the dispute, noting that the company provides 85 direct jobs and approximately 250 indirect jobs in a region with limited economic opportunities. He urged authorities to ensure equitable treatment compared to similar companies operating under the same legal framework.
