Bhadohi district to be renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Bhadohi district will now be known as ‘Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi’. This decision aims to integrate two distinct historical identities: the spiritual legacy of Sant Ravidas, a prominent figure for the Dalit community, and the historical ‘Bhadohi’ name associated with the Bhar Raj dynasty.

The renaming follows a history of shifting designations in the region. In 1997, the district was named Sant Ravidas Nagar, but the name was reverted to Bhadohi in 2014. The new dual-identity name seeks to honor both the Dalit community's faith and the historical heritage of the Rajbhar community.

During an event involving the inauguration of 112 projects worth over 1,340 crore rupees, the Chief Minister also addressed the state of the local carpet industry and regional development. He noted that Bhadohi's craftsmanship is recognized nationally, citing the use of local carpets in the new Parliament building.
