Bhadohi hospital staff face action after woman gives birth on roadside

A 20-year-old woman from the Musahar community gave birth on a roadside outside the Maharaja Chet Singh District Hospital in Gyanpur, Bhadohi, after allegedly being denied admission by hospital staff.

The family alleged that a staff nurse, Neelam Maurya, refused to attend to the woman due to her caste. While the woman's family reported being turned away, the Chief Medical Officer cited low hemoglobin levels as a reason for referral. Following the viral spread of footage showing the delivery occurring by the roadside, an administrative investigation was launched.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak directed an inquiry which identified negligence by several officials. Staff nurse Neelam Maurya has been suspended, and the salary of gynecologist Dr. Mukesh Prajapati has been withheld. The health department has also recommended departmental action against Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. AK Tiwari and gynecologist Dr. Neelima Dhawan for administrative and professional negligence.
