Bhadrak woman alleges family declared her dead to seize property
A woman named Aisha Bibi has accused her husband and two sons of property fraud in the Bhadrak district of Odisha. According to the complaint, while Bibi was on a pilgrimage in 2023, her sons allegedly submitted an affidavit claiming she had died approximately 40 years ago and had no daughters.
Using this affidavit, Dhamnagar Revenue Inspector Prakash Mallick reportedly submitted a report declaring Bibi deceased without proper verification. This allowed her name to be removed from official land records, resulting in her house and property being transferred to her sons. Bibi, who maintains she has six daughters, staged a protest at the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police’s office to demand the restoration of her property.
Following an investigation, police registered a case on July 27. Authorities have arrested Bibi's elder son, Sk Taufiq, and stated that the remaining accused individuals would be arrested soon. The district administration has also been notified regarding the allegations against the Revenue Inspector.
