Bhakta Charan Das hospitalized during Congress protest in Bhubaneswar

Bhakta Charan Das, president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), was hospitalized in Bhubaneswar after falling ill during a political protest on Friday. Das had been suffering from a fever for several days but participated in a march led by the Congress party to protest against the Election Commission.

Medical evaluations revealed that Das had elevated blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as low oxygen saturation. Doctors have advised him to undergo treatment and rest for approximately one week.

The protest was part of a nationwide Congress agitation demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party expressed concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the electoral process. During the demonstration, police prevented protesters from reaching the Chief Electoral Officer’s office and detained several party members, including Das.
