Bhamragad floods trigger mass evacuations and medical airlifts

Heavy rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and streams have created flood-like conditions in the Bhamragad region of Gadchiroli district. In response to the rising waters, local administration teams led by District Collector Avishyant Panda and Tehsildar Kishore Bagde evacuated 525 citizens to safer locations.

Emergency rescue efforts included the use of NDRF teams to transport a sick student across the Gundenuur Nala to a primary health center in Laheri. As flooding has rendered many roads impassable, the administration also coordinated an emergency medical evacuation via helicopter. Three critically ill patients, including individuals suffering from sickle cell disease, were airlifted from the remote Bhamragad tehsil to a hospital in Hedri using a helicopter provided by Lloyds Metals.

While water levels have begun to recede in some areas, authorities continue to monitor the situation and have advised residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and avoid traveling through flooded paths or near riverbanks.
