Bhandara road accident kills nine passengers from Chhattisgarh

Nine people, including six women and three children, were killed in a road accident in the Bhandara district of Maharashtra early Friday morning. The incident occurred on National Highway 53 when a Bolero vehicle crashed into a stationary Eicher truck.

The victims, who were traveling from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, to Nagpur for a festival, were part of a group of approximately 16 to 17 passengers. In addition to the nine fatalities, 14 others sustained injuries. Local police and bystanders assisted in rescuing the injured, who were transported to medical colleges in Bhandara and Nagpur for treatment.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced ex-gratia payments of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured. A government team has been dispatched to Bhandara to coordinate with Maharashtra authorities and support the affected families.
