Bharatiya Kisan Sangh hosts inaugural women farmers' conference in Delhi
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) held its inaugural women farmers’ conference at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The event aimed to recognize the significant contributions of women to the agricultural sector and the rural economy, noting that women manage between 60% and 80% of agricultural activities in India, including sowing, harvesting, and animal husbandry.
Speakers at the conference emphasized the need to modernize the image of women farmers and called for government attention to the challenges they face. Discussions focused on the importance of organic farming, indigenous seed conservation, and cow-based agriculture. The conference also served as a precursor to the United Nations' designation of 2026 as the ‘International Year of the Woman Farmer.’
Participants and organizers highlighted that empowering self-reliant women farmers is essential for national growth and the development of healthy, disease-free societies through ‘poison-free’ farming practices.
