BHASVIC wins approval for new sports pitches despite objections

Brighton and Hove City Council’s Planning Committee has granted permission for BHASVIC to develop an artificial grass pitch and multi-use games area. The decision was reached with an eight-to-two vote despite receiving over one thousand objections.

Opponents raised concerns regarding the proximity of the new pitches to the Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT), noting that potential scheduling clashes could impact theatre companies and thousands of audience members. Additionally, environmental concerns were voiced regarding the impact of artificial lighting and the loss of food sources for local wildlife, specifically starlings.
