Bhopal merchant's GST account hacked to upload 8.09 crore rupees in fake invoices

In Bhopal, an attempt to evade approximately 1.46 crore rupees in GST through account hacking has been uncovered. An unidentified perpetrator gained unauthorized access to a merchant's GST account, changed the password, and added a different email ID and mobile number to the profile.

Using this access, the perpetrator uploaded 989 fake invoices totaling 8.09 crore rupees and filed a GST return for February 2026. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered an FIR following a complaint from the merchant. Investigations have identified Basant Kumar Srivastava, also known as Basant Kumar Gaur from Delhi, as a person of interest. The EOW is currently investigating the firms that benefited from these fraudulent invoices and the broader network involved in the scheme.
