Bhopal murder investigation linked to viral Instagram organ-selling myth
Police in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, are investigating the murder of a teenager allegedly driven by a viral social media hoax. Investigators state that a group of young men was convinced by an Instagram reel that human testicles could be sold for as much as Rs 1.20 crore.
Authorities have arrested 20-year-old BBA student Zoheb Khan and 18-year-old Aamir Qureshi, and have detained three minors. Police allege that Khan acted as the mastermind, using a white apron and stethoscope to pose as a doctor to lend credibility to the false claims. He reportedly guided the group, which included minors, during the crime.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Rehan, was reportedly lured with Rs 100 before being killed and mutilated. His decomposed body was recovered from the Lower Lake near Dhobi Ghat on August 10. Investigators have found no medical evidence to support the claims made in the video and confirmed there is no legitimate market for such organs.
