Madhya Pradesh CM orders SIT for retired IAS officer murder case

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agrawal. The directive follows a meeting between the Chief Minister and the Madhya Pradesh IAS Officers’ Association, who requested an impartial and time-bound probe.

Rakesh Agrawal, a 1982-batch officer who held senior positions including District Collector and Director General of the RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration, was found dead with his throat slit at his Bhopal residence on September 30. Investigators discovered signs of an attempted arson, noting that LPG cylinder pipes had been disconnected.

The prime suspect is Varun Kumar, a 27-year-old caretaker from Punjab who had been hired through a home healthcare agency shortly before the incident. Despite a multi-state manhunt covering areas such as Gwalior, Mathura, Vrindavan, and Punjab, the suspect remains at large. Police have announced a reward of 50,000 rupees for information leading to his arrest. The SIT, led by DCP Umesh Tiwari, will focus on technical evidence and field investigations to resolve the case.
