Bhopal police hunt suspect in retired IAS officer murder
Police in Bhopal are investigating the murder of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agrawal, who was killed in his Suraj Nagar home in the Ratibad area. The primary suspect is his caretaker, Varun Kumar, who allegedly slit Agrawal's throat with a sharp weapon between 12:30 AM and 2:00 AM on September 30. Following the attack, the suspect reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by disconnecting a gas cylinder pipe to start a fire.
CCTV footage has allowed investigators to trace the suspect's escape route. After leaving the residence at 2:40 AM, the suspect was seen traveling by foot and auto-rickshaw before boarding a train toward Delhi from the Bhopal railway station at approximately 3:30 AM. Dozens of police teams have been deployed across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab to apprehend him.
A secondary investigative angle has emerged involving a potential connection to a prior financial dispute. Approximately 11 months ago, Agrawal had filed a complaint with the Crime Branch against an acquaintance, Ajit Patni, regarding a fraud involving over 1 crore rupees. While police are examining whether this legal conflict played a role in the murder, their primary focus remains the caretaker. Additionally, authorities are questioning the placement agency, Verma Home Health Care, regarding the background verification of the suspect.
