Bhopal dowry death: Retired judge and son charged after Twisha Sharma's suicide
Twisha Sharma, a 33‑year‑old woman from Noida, was found dead hanging from a pipe at her in‑laws' house in Bhopal just five months after marrying Samarth Singh, a practising lawyer. Her family alleges she was repeatedly harassed over dowry, forced to abort a pregnancy, and subjected to mental torture.
Police registered an FIR at Katara Hills Police Station and booked Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, and her son Samarth Singh under sections relating to dowry death, harassment for dowry and related offences. The family has staged sit‑in protests demanding arrest and sealing of the residence, accusing the accused of tampering with evidence and fabricating a suicide.
Investigators are conducting raids at the accused’s home and other locations. The case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of a former judge and the alleged misuse of dowry provisions.
