BHRT faces financial collapse and announces lawsuit against Bosnia and Herzegovina

The public broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BHRT, is facing a severe financial crisis due to blocked bank accounts and long-term funding issues. As a result, the BHT1 editorial board has announced plans to file a lawsuit against the state, the Parliamentary Assembly, and the Council of Ministers for failing to comply with the Law on the Public RTV System.

Due to the financial deadlock, BHRT has suspended several programs, including the afternoon show ‘BHT1 uživo’ and weekend editions of ‘Jutra za sve’. The broadcaster also noted that it can no longer deploy news teams to the field for reporting. This crisis has placed the television broadcast of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team's matches in the Nations League in jeopardy.

A significant factor in the crisis is the non-payment of RTV fees by entity broadcasters, specifically RTRS, which has reportedly contributed to a debt exceeding 50 million euros. BHRT also faces substantial obligations to employees and the state, including unpaid salaries and social security contributions.
