Bhubaneswar faces traffic chaos amid roadwork and signal failures

Commuters in Bhubaneswar are facing significant traffic disruptions and infrastructure challenges ahead of the festive season. Ongoing siphon road construction between Laxmisagar and Badagada has created bottlenecks. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has implemented a temporary route fenced with iron railings, which has left very little space for vehicles and reportedly resulted in damage to numerous vehicles.

Simultaneously, major traffic arteries like Kataka Road are experiencing congestion due to the failure of automated traffic signals at key junctions, including Kalpana and Laxmisagar Squares. The lack of functioning signals has forced a reliance on manual traffic management by constables and wardens. Residents have expressed concerns that the combination of roadwork, signal failures, and the proximity of roadside festival pandals will lead to unbearable congestion during the upcoming Puja celebrations.
