Bhubaneswar man dies by suicide over unreturned loans

A man identified as Ashwini Kumar Tandia died after setting himself on fire in Bhubaneswar following a dispute over unreturned loans. The incident occurred in the Chandrasekharpur area, reportedly driven by severe mental distress after failed attempts to recover money lent to acquaintances.

Reports indicate the deceased had lent significant sums—ranging in accounts from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 17 lakh—to individuals identified as Ashish Das and Prabhas Panda. Tandia was taken to Capital Hospital and later transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to his burn injuries.

Chandrasekharpur police have arrested Prabhas Panda, the brother-in-law of Ashish Das, following a complaint alleging mental harassment and instigation. Ashish Das is currently reported to be absconding. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the allegations of fraud and the circumstances surrounding the death.
