Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to raise cremation charges

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved a proposal to increase cremation charges across its city-run facilities. The revision is attributed to the rising costs of LPG and PNG.

Under the new proposal, gas-based cremations at the Dharma Vihar and Aiginia crematoriums will rise to Rs 3,000 per body, which includes Rs 200 for operation and maintenance (O&M). At the Satyanagar and Jalimunda crematoriums, the proposed fee is approximately Rs 4,500 per cremation. For cremations using firewood, the BMC plans to collect Rs 3,000 per body, including Rs 500 in O&M charges.

The corporation also outlined fees for its new gas-based pet crematorium in the Palasuni area. The total cost for cremating a small animal is set at Rs 3,045; private owners will pay Rs 1,000, while the BMC will cover the remaining Rs 2,045. For animals brought through the city health officer, the BMC will bear the full cost.
