Bhubaneswar police implement restrictions for Durga Puja immersion
Bhubaneswar authorities have announced strict regulations and traffic diversions for the upcoming Durga Puja idol immersion processions, known as Dussehra Bhasani Utsav. To maintain order, the Deputy Commissioner of Police has banned the use of DJ music during the processions, warning that violators will face equipment seizure and criminal charges. Organizers are instead encouraged to use traditional musical instruments.
Significant traffic management measures will be in effect starting at 2:00 PM. Major committees from Saheed Nagar, Nayapalli, Chandrasekharpur, and Old Town will follow specific routes, leading to the closure of key roads such as Janpath Road. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes like Sachivalaya Marg and various bypass networks to avoid gridlock.
For safety and environmental management, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has constructed six temporary immersion ponds along the Kuakhai and Daya Rivers, near Centurion University, and in the Chandaka region. Security for 'Ravan Podi' gatherings includes a 100-meter safety perimeter and specific distance requirements for firework storage. Law enforcement will deploy 48 police platoons and approximately 100 officers to oversee the ceremonies.
