Bhubaneswar to host World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Meet
Bhubaneswar will host India’s first World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Meet on August 22 at Kalinga Stadium. Organized by the Government of Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services Department in association with the Athletics Federation of India, the one-day international event marks an upgrade from previous bronze-level competitions.
The meet will feature 187 elite athletes from 27 countries, including 88 Indian competitors. Notable international participants include Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga, the world No. 6 in the men’s 400m and Paris 2024 bronze medallist, and Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, ranked world No. 10 in shot put. Large contingents are expected from Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Brazil.
The competition includes 18 events split equally between men and women, covering disciplines such as the 100m, 400m, hurdles, high jump, long jump, and various throwing events. The meet serves as a precursor to future major championships scheduled for Kalinga Stadium in 2028.
