In the photos she wore a black top, tight jeans and black sunglasses. The post quickly went viral, and many netizens criticised her for keeping the sunglasses on during the puja, questioning whether the act was a genuine devotion or a photoshoot. One comment read, "She should have shown respect by removing her glasses in front of God."

Supporters argued that devotion should not be judged by attire, but Pednekar has not issued any public response to the controversy.
