Bhupen Hazarika documentary explores social and humanist legacy

Filmmaker Utpal Borpujari has produced an 82-minute documentary titled ‘Manuhar Gaan’ (The Hum of Humanity), which examines the socio-political and humanist dimensions of legendary musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s work. The film aims to introduce audiences outside of Assam and Bengal to Hazarika’s deep social commitment and his engagement with issues of injustice and the struggles of the downtrodden.

The documentary’s poster and trailer were released at the Gauhati Press Club by Manisha Hazarika, president of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust. The project serves as a tribute ahead of the grand finale of Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations scheduled for September.

Producer Abhijit Bhuyan noted that the filmmakers intend to release unused footage and interview portions on YouTube to assist academics and researchers interested in Hazarika’s musical legacy.
