Bhutan King meets Bangladesh President during Dhaka transit

Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck met with Bangladesh President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a brief transit stop at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday.

During the one-hour meeting at the airport's VVIP lounge, the leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, education, and investment. The King briefed the President on the Gelephu Mindfulness City project and sought Bangladesh's participation and cooperation in the initiative. The President expressed interest in supporting such transformative developments.

The two leaders exchanged invitations for official state visits. President Alamgir highlighted the historic ties between the nations, noting that Bhutan was the first country to recognize Bangladesh's independence on December 6, 1971. The King also extended congratulations to the President on assuming his office.
