Bi Gan’s sci-fi film ‘Resurrection’ arrives on streaming

The science fiction film ‘Resurrection’, directed by Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan, has arrived on streaming platforms Movistar+ and Filmin. The film, which received the Special Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, is described as an experimental work blending science fiction, horror, and melodrama.

Set in a dystopian future where humanity has achieved biological immortality at the cost of the ability to dream, the plot follows individuals who are persecuted for their capacity to dream. The narrative features a woman, played by Shu Qi, whose consciousness enters an eternal dimension during surgery, where she encounters an android played by Jackson Yee. The film is structured into chapters that span different eras of cinema and utilize long takes, a signature style of Bi Gan.
