Bia Kicis faces scrutiny over voting record and social media claims
A review of Brazilian Federal Deputy Bia Kicis’s legislative record reveals voting patterns that contrast with her stated political principles of defending families and social rights. Since her first term began in 2019, Kicis has voted against several social and educational initiatives, including the permanent Fundeb for basic education, the maintenance of the R$ 600 Bolsa Família program, and the social tariff for water and sewage services.
Additionally, her record includes votes against gender pay equality mechanisms and against restricting firearm access for individuals with histories of domestic violence. She also voted in favor of the ‘PEC da Blindagem,’ which limits the accountability of parliamentarians, and opposed the preventive detention of former deputy Chiquinho Brazão.
Separately, Kicis has faced criticism for spreading disinformation on social media. She shared a manipulated video clip of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to falsely suggest he expressed atheism. The full footage shows the President discussing his own faith and acknowledging that while some people do not believe in God, he personally believes in divine guidance.
