Bialystok University of Technology students create gloves to simulate Parkinson’s tremor

Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology designed three prototype gloves that reproduce the hand tremor experienced by Parkinson’s disease patients. The devices were used in free workshops for more than 200 secondary‑school pupils in the Podlaskie region, letting participants feel the difficulty of everyday tasks such as sending a text or tying shoelaces.

The project, carried out by the Alios student scientific circle, was funded through a micro‑grant from the "Youth Podlaskie Locally" competition. According to student Sergiusz Jakuszewicz, the aim was to teach empathy through experience: "We decided on education by experiencing, because it reaches the imagination of young people more effectively." The initiative highlights how biomedical engineering can raise awareness of a disease that affects around 100,000 people in Poland.
