Bianca Andreescu battles persistent injuries to rebuild tennis career

Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion and first Canadian to win a major singles title, continues to struggle with a career defined by persistent physical setbacks. After a meteoric rise in 2019—where she won Indian Wells as a wildcard and reached a career-high ranking of No. 4—her progress has been repeatedly halted by a series of injuries and surgeries.

Since 2020, Andreescu has faced complications involving her knee, shoulder, back, ankle, and foot, as well as a stress fracture in her spine. Her recovery efforts were further delayed by an appendectomy in early 2025 and a significant ankle sprain during a match in Montreal in August 2025.

In an effort to rebuild her ranking outside the top 150, Andreescu has transitioned from competing in major WTA draws to playing in the World Tennis Tour, WTA 125, and ITF events. In 2026, she ended a professional title drought by winning an ITF tournament with a $35,000 prize pool.
