Białobrzegi officials refuse to sever ties with Ukrainian city over Stepan Bandera honor
Political activists from Konfederacja and Nowa Nadzieja have called on the authorities of Białobrzegi to address the honorary citizenship granted to Stepan Bandera by the Ukrainian city of Rawa Ruska. During a press conference, representatives highlighted the historical context of Bandera’s leadership and the massacres of Polish civilians in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia between 1943 and 1945.
The activists proposed two main actions: first, that Białobrzegi issue an official protest to the authorities of Rawa Ruska requesting the revocation of the honorary citizenship; and second, to consider terminating the partnership if the Ukrainian municipality does not respond.
In response to inquiries, the Białobrzegi municipal office stated it does not intend to take action regarding the partnership. The Mayor noted that the cooperation agreement, signed in 2019, aims to strengthen social, economic, and cultural ties. The administration emphasized that maintaining the relationship serves as a demonstration of Polish-Ukrainian solidarity amidst current international tensions.
