Biathlete Iva Moric switches from Germany to Croatia

Biathlete Iva Moric, once considered a top talent for Germany, has transitioned to competing for Croatia. The 22-year-old athlete recently shared personal struggles regarding her mental and family life during an interview.

Moric revealed that she suffered from an eating disorder, at one point weighing only 43 kilograms, driven by the intense pressure to perform. She also discussed her family's history with cancer, noting that her mother was diagnosed in 2013. Moric stated that her parents initially withheld the diagnosis from her and her brother to protect them, only revealing the truth after she turned 18.

The decision to leave the German Ski Association at the end of 2025 to join the Croatian federation was motivated by a desire to be closer to her family and reduce the constant stress of high-level competition. Moric expressed that being able to support her mother, who is now tumor-free, is her primary priority.
