Biawak border point upgrade to boost Sarawak-Kalimantan trade

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced plans to upgrade the Biawak border point to strengthen trade and economic ties between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand cross-border economic networks across Borneo and integrate the region more deeply into the ASEAN economy. The Premier noted that the upgraded border facility will serve as a vital channel for cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia, providing significant economic benefits to Sarawak.

Abang Johari also highlighted recent discussions with the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce regarding the establishment of a Borneo-wide economic cooperation network. This network aims to connect Borneo to the wider ASEAN regional economy, creating new opportunities for development and economic growth.
