Białystok officials approve new company to develop Krywlany airport
The Białystok City Council has approved the creation of a joint limited liability company, Lotnisko Białystok-Krywlany, to oversee the development and management of the Krywlany airport. The venture is a partnership between the City of Białystok, the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and Polish Airports (Polskie Porty Lotnicze).
The company aims to transform the current facility, which is presently used for border security, medical rescue, and sports, into a functional passenger airport. Until regular commercial flights are established, the entity will provide administrative, technical, and advisory services to both local governments.
Infrastructure plans include extending the existing 1,350-meter runway by 430 meters to reach a total length of 1,780 meters, and increasing its width from 30 to 45 meters. The Podlaskie Voivodeship has secured 10 million euros from the European Funds for Podlaskie 2021-2027 program to fund taxiways, navigation systems, and hangar facilities. Both the city and the voivodeship will contribute 625,000 PLN each toward initial shares, with annual operating costs estimated at 5–6 million PLN.
