Białystok releases third edition of neighborhood needs map

The city of Białystok has published the third edition of its ‘Map of Needs of Białystok Neighborhoods’ (Mapa potrzeb białostockich osiedli). This document compiles requests and feedback gathered during a series of meetings between Mayor Tadeusz Truskolaski and local residents, as well as through public surveys.

Unlike a participatory budget, which relies on specific project voting and fixed funds, the needs map serves as a guide for city development. It organizes resident requests by neighborhood, allowing municipal units to implement improvements within their standard budgets. Examples of previously realized projects include a bicycle crossing at the Nauczycieli Tajnego Nauczania roundabout, the revitalization of a pond on Bema Street, and the installation of speed bumps near Primary School No. 52.

In the survey component, residents also evaluated various aspects of neighborhood life. Regarding safety, 63 percent of respondents provided a positive assessment, with 23 percent rating it as ‘very good’ and 40 percent as ‘rather good’.
