Bibbiena woman under investigation for suspected homicide of husband
An investigation is underway in Bibbiena, Arezzo, following the death of 70-year-old retired sanitation worker Giancarlo Bernardini. Mr. Bernardini died on September 18 after suffering a severe hemorrhage caused by a deep wound to his left popliteal vein.
His wife, 59-year-old Maria, has been placed under investigation by the Arezzo Prosecutor's Office on the suspicion of homicide. While the investigation is in its preliminary stages, authorities are working to determine if the injury was a domestic accident, as the wife claims, or if it was caused by a sharp object.
Mr. Bernardini was at his home in Pian del Ponte with his wife when the incident occurred. Emergency services transported him to Arezzo via helicopter, where he passed away later that evening. The suspect remains free and is not currently subject to any precautionary measures.
