BIC compensates customer following online fraud incident

BIDV Insurance Corporation (BIC) and BIDV Tay Sai Gon branch have compensated a customer, Q. K. T., with 20 million VND following an online fraud incident in Ho Chi Minh City.

On August 28, 2026, a scammer impersonating an official from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance contacted the victim, claiming to assist with urgent business license documentation. The perpetrator directed the customer to a fraudulent website to correct personal information and subsequently used a QR code scam to gain unauthorized access to the victim's banking application, stealing 45 million VND.

Because the customer had previously enrolled in the ‘Bao An Tai Khoan’ cybersecurity insurance product via the BIDV SmartBanking app, BIC processed the claim and paid the maximum benefit of 20 million VND. The insurance product is designed to protect users against digital transaction fraud risks.
