Bicentennial Gastroenterological Institute suffers equipment theft in La Paz

The Bicentennial Gastroenterological Institute (IGB) in La Paz was targeted in a theft occurring between Sunday night and early Monday morning. According to authorities, the stolen items include two CPUs and a data display/projector.

Health Minister Marcela Flores Zambrana stated that one of the stolen CPUs contains specialized software essential for processing and analyzing images from the hospital's tomograph. While the theft is a setback for medical services, Flores emphasized that the tomograph remains functional because the facility possesses an alternative CPU. She maintained that the incident will not delay the institute's scheduled opening next month, which is expected to include imaging, pharmacy, laboratory, and general services.

The Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC) is currently investigating the incident. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and have taken statements from two security guards on duty. Police have indicated that there are suspects in the case.
