Bicycle theft incidents reported in Germany
Police in Euskirchen recovered a stolen bicycle after the owner successfully tracked its location. A 52-year-old suspect, who was found by officers while pushing the bike and testing positive for a high blood alcohol level, was taken into custody.
In Aurich, authorities are investigating the theft of a black Pegasus Solero Pedelec e-bike that was taken from Schützenstraße between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon.
Legal experts advise owners who locate stolen bicycles to avoid self-recovery if it involves breaking locks or entering private property, as these actions can lead to charges of property damage or trespassing. While owners remain the legal owners even if a bike is resold, police recommend using documentation like purchase contracts to prove ownership.
