Bida Local Government shuts illegal ice cream factories in Niger State
The Bida Local Government Area in Niger State has shut down several ice cream production facilities following inspections that uncovered severe hygiene violations. Officials reported finding flies in ice cream mixtures and noted that the products lacked labels, making it impossible to identify contents or trace their sources.
Laboratory analysis of the substances used in production reportedly revealed a lack of nutritional value and the presence of substances deemed dangerous to human health. Additionally, factory managers admitted the facilities were operating without required operating licenses or registration numbers from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The enforcement action, which included the evacuation of production equipment and materials, was prompted by resident complaints regarding a facility near the Federal Polytechnic Bida area. Local authorities stated the operation was necessary to prevent widespread health risks to residents receiving products from various vendors.
