Bida road blockade by heavy-duty drivers over infrastructure decay

Heavy-duty vehicle drivers have blocked all major entry roads into Bida, Niger State, to protest the deteriorating condition of the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road. Protesters claim the government has failed to begin necessary reconstruction work, leading to frequent vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and significant loss of lives and property.

Drivers have demanded that the Federal Government either commence reconstruction on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai route or reopen an alternative road to alleviate the hardships faced by motorists. One driver, Suleiman Kaduna, stated the blockade is intended to draw federal attention to the lack of justice and fairness regarding the infrastructure.

The Niger Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aishat Sa’adu, confirmed that attempts to persuade the drivers to reopen the roads were unsuccessful. The protesters have refused to lift the blockade until they can meet with a representative of the Federal Government.
