BIDV Insurance compensates customer for fraudulent website scam

BIDV Insurance Corporation (BIC) has compensated a customer in Hanoi for 14 million VND, covering 100% of the losses incurred from a fraudulent website scam.

The victim, P. T. T. H., was targeted by an individual posing as an administrative official offering subsidies for women. The scammer directed the victim to a fraudulent website designed to mimic an official online service portal. After being instructed to scan a QR code via a banking application to complete the procedure, the victim's account was depleted of 14 million VND.

The payout was made possible because the customer had previously enrolled in BIC’s 'Bao An Tai Khoan' insurance, which is available through the BIDV SmartBanking digital platform. The incident highlights the increasing sophistication of scams involving impersonation of state agencies and banks to lure users into visiting malicious websites.
