Biedronka and DINO roll out plum and melon promotions in Polish stores

Polish discount retailer Biedronka announced that it will now sell plums sourced from domestic orchards, ending a two‑week period in which the chain relied mainly on imports. The company highlighted that in the previous season 94.75 % of the plums it offered came from Poland and that the current promotion prices the fruit at 3.99 zł per kilogram, with purchase costs for growers estimated at 1.30–1.50 zł per kilogram.

At the same time, rival chain DINO introduced a similar promotion, offering Polish plums for 3.99 zł /kg in its 3 200 stores from 5 to 11 August. The promotion follows the same pattern of buying locally once domestic prices fall to production cost levels.

Biedronka also features imported melons under the brand name “Orange Sweet”. The melons, described as a type of cantaloupe with orange flesh, are marketed for their balanced sweetness and light acidity. The retailer provides guidance on selecting ripe fruit, emphasizing weight and aroma as indicators of quality.
