Bielefeld court sentences man for hospital corpse desecration

The Bielefeld District Court has sentenced a 39-year-old man to five years in prison for the sexual desecration of seven corpses in a hospital morgue in Bünde, North Rhine-Westphalia. The defendant, a father who had recently lost his job at the hospital, provided a comprehensive confession during the trial.

In addition to the desecration of the deceased, the man was convicted of theft, residential burglary, two attempted cases of arson, and possession of child pornography. He attributed the burglaries to an addiction problem and the need to fund it.

The court's five-year sentence was significantly lower than the nine years requested by the prosecution. Presiding Judge Thorsten Bolte noted that while the defendant confessed, he failed to provide an explanation for his actions against the deceased, describing the case as one that a judge rarely encounters in their career. The verdict is not yet legally binding and may be subject to review by the Federal Court of Justice.
