Bielsko-Biała officials defend tree felling in Cygański Las
In Bielsko-Biała, the removal of approximately 40 trees in the Cygański Las forest has sparked local controversy. Residents have raised concerns regarding the timing of the work, suggesting it may be occurring during a protected period.
The Bielsko-Biała City Hall stated that the felling is necessary to ensure the safety of tourists and residents using the forest paths. According to officials, a forest inspection conducted in August 2026 across more than 37 hectares identified the trees as hazards. The targeted trees include dead firs and spruces, ash trees affected by fungal disease, and a beech tree previously topped due to rot. The city maintains that the decision was based on the health and safety risks posed by the trees rather than land development plans.
