Bielsko-Biała to erect monument for engineer Karol Franciszek Pollak
The Bielsko-Biała City Council has unanimously approved the erection of a monument to Karol Franciszek Pollak (1859–1928), a prominent engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. The decision aims to honor his significant contributions to science, technology, and industry.
The monument, consisting of a bronze bust, will be donated by the Bielsko-Biała branch of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers, meaning the municipality will not incur any costs. The bust will be mounted on a granite pedestal at the Karol Franciszek Pollak Square on Juliusza Słowackiego Street, located near the Jędrzej Śniadecki School Complex.
Pollak was a pioneer in electrical engineering, holding numerous patents for innovations such as commutator rectifiers and electrolytic capacitors. He was also a founding member of the Polish Battery Society and established a battery factory in Biała in 1923, which remains in operation today.
