Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway develops 40m crack and subsidence
A 40-meter-long crack and localized subsidence have been reported on the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway in the Phuoc Tan ward of Dong Nai province. The damage is located near the Buong River area, specifically within the first component project of the expressway.
Observations indicate that the road surface has developed a longitudinal crack approximately 40 meters in length, accompanied by signs of subsidence and tilting toward the river. Some sections show erosion, including a deep hole approximately 10cm deep and 40cm wide, as well as damaged talus slopes and broken drainage systems. The road embankment in this area stands about 8.7 meters above the natural ground level.
The Dong Nai Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board reported that while the issues were detected around mid-August, the crack has not shown further expansion in length or width, and the subsidence appears to be stabilizing.
To determine the cause and develop a repair plan, design consultants conducted geological drilling on September 22. Geological testing is currently underway to assess the stability of the embankment and ensure traffic safety during continued operation.
