Bieszczady region features unique cultural and local landmarks
The Bieszczady region in Poland is characterized by distinct cultural elements, ranging from literary works to local curiosities and musical traditions.
Dagmara Zielant-Woś has authored ‘Sen o Szepczącym Lesie’ (Dream of the Whispering Forest), a novel that utilizes the region's wild atmosphere and Slavic mythology to blend contemporary life with ancient traditions. The story explores the boundary between the past and present through a supernatural lens.
In the town of Cisna, a unique road sign serves as a local landmark. Installed by Marcin Zieliński as a private initiative to commemorate his hometown of Siedlce, the sign directs travelers toward a location over 400 kilometers away. Despite being removed by road authorities for being in a public right-of-way, the sign remains mounted on a building facade.
Additionally, the song ‘Bieszczadzkie Anioły’ (Bieszczady Angels) has become a musical symbol of the region. Written by poet Adam Ziemianin and composed by Krzysztof Myszkowski of the band Stare Dobre Małżeństwo, the track is widely recognized and performed during cultural events throughout the area.
