Bieszczady villages preserve historical and cultural legacies

The Bieszczady region in Poland contains several villages with deep historical roots and unique cultural legacies. In Terka, located near the Solinka river, the landscape preserves traces of a former Basilian monastery. Though no visible buildings remain, the monastery's presence is marked by the name of the nearby Monaster hill and historical records indicating it existed until at least 1780.

In the village of Wołosate, situated within the Bieszczady National Park, the area's history spans from its 16th-century origins as a royal village to the devastating impact of World War II and subsequent postwar resettlements. After the destruction of the original settlement, the area saw a revival in the late 1960s, eventually becoming known for its Hucul horse breeding and its status as a starting point for hikers climbing Tarnica.
