Big Bear bald eagle Jackie dies after intensive medical care
Jackie, a famous bald eagle known for her popular Big Bear Valley livestream, has died at the age of 14. After being found grounded and unable to fly in mid-July following a territorial dispute with younger eagles, she was moved to the Ojai Raptor Center for intensive medical care.
Despite receiving oxygen therapy, a blood transfusion, and around-the-clock monitoring, Jackie succumbed to severe anemia and kidney inflammation. Veterinarians were unable to determine the exact cause of her critical decline. Her death has drawn significant emotional responses from the millions of global viewers who followed her and her mate, Shadow, via a 24/7 nest camera operated by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley.
Jackie’s remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Her life was considered emblematic of the bald eagle species' recovery in California.
