Big Brother hits 1,000-episode milestone and sets two Guinness World Records

The CBS reality series ‘Big Brother’ reached a historic milestone by airing its 1,000th episode, becoming the first primetime entertainment show in the United States to achieve this feat. During the celebratory episode, the show secured two Guinness World Records: for the most episodes of a primetime TV show and for the most episodes of a competitive reality TV show.

The milestone episode featured a retrospective of the series’ 26-year history and included appearances by former houseguests. In terms of current gameplay, Mallory Aurichio was evicted following a 6-2 vote, a move that caused tension among remaining houseguests.

To facilitate a new ‘unprecedented twist,’ host Julie Chen Moonves announced that the houseguests would be transported to a ‘Medieval Times’ theme set in the year 1,000. As part of this twist, the show’s live feeds were temporarily shut down for three days to prevent spoilers, a decision that has drawn mixed reactions from the fan community.
